Magitek is a unique type of magic that emphasizes integration with machines. It is one of the lost arts of magic that has been largely forgotten.
Inner workings[]
Unlike most types of magic which draw directly from Maj on command, magitek works by executing a series of preset instructions. Rather than spoken words, incantations intended for magitek are a series of mathematical equations. A magitek machine is created when transistors are carved into ekati crystal, then inserted into a machine. A secondary incantation serves as the programming which works directly with the hardware. The magic then proceeds to carry out the programmed incantation until the ekati crystal is exhausted. If the crystal is programmed to absorb magic, it can be recharged in that way. Otherwise, it must be discarded.
Early magitek crystals were the size of houses, but technological advancements have allowed them to be far more portable.
Individuals that are around the middle of the mT spectrum are generally able to understand magitek better than those on either extreme end.
Disappearance[]
With the destruction of the United Plane and the fall of the last few ancient magitek civilizations such as Segara, magitek has largely become a lost art, forgotten to history. Magitek ruins and artifacts can still be found, but almost no civilizations of the modern day practice it in favor of using non-magical technology supported by ordinary magic.
